New Year’s Day Holiday Schedule

In observance of the New Year holiday, the Railroad Commission of Texas will close at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, and remain closed through Friday, January 2, 2026. Normal business operations will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Surface Mining and Reclamation Permit Information

To explore for coal or uranium or to mine for coal, a person must first obtain a permit from the Surface Mining and Reclamation Division.  The following application forms are required to begin the exploration or mining process.
