In observance of the Christmas holidays, Railroad Commission of Texas offices will be closed December 23-27. The offices will re-open at 8 a.m. on Monday, December 30 for regular business. Alternative Fuels Safety Regulations

The LP-Gas, LNG, and CNG regulations adopted by the Commission



Pursuant to the Texas Natural Resources Code (TNRC), Title 3, Chapter 116, the Railroad Commission of Texas has adopted the Regulations for Compressed Natural Gas, under TAC, Title 16, Chapter 13.

Below are links to all the regulations adopted by the Commission either directly or by reference.

The Regulations for Compressed Natural Gas can be easily saved on your computer for future reference and can be searched for key words or section numbers. In addition to the Commission’s Regulations, this PDF also includes the State statute governing CNG. The PDF version is provided for informational purposes only. The official rules of the Railroad Commission of Texas are found in the Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Title 16, Part 1, Chapters 1 through 20. The TAC is maintained by the Office of the Secretary of State.

Prior versions of Regulations for Compressed Natural Gas may be accessed through the website of the Texas Secretary of State. To view previous versions of this code, enter the relevant Title Number, Part Number, and Chapter Number for the regulation of interest. Railroad Commission regulations are found in Title 16 Part 1. Regulations for Compress Natural Gas are found in Chapter 13. Complete the field Show rule as in effect on this date with the date of interest.

Any proposed changes to regulations are posted by the Office of General Counsel.

In addition to the Commission’s Regulations for Compressed Natural Gas, the Commission has adopted by reference the National Fire Protection Association’s Vehicular Gaseous Fuel Systems Code (NFPA 52 - 2013 edition) and Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code (NFPA 55 – 2013 edition).
